The Westfall Case (Part II)

Horace’s first stop was going to be Jack’s restaurant, just two blocks away. He knew that he had to verify the story that Mrs. Westfall had given him. Since Jack was an old friend of his it would be easy to get all the information he needed. The fact that it was the middle of the lunch rush was a guarantee that Jack would be present.

“Excuse me sir, but, we don’t serve your kind here,” stated the matradee in his black tailed tuxedo as Horace walked through the door.

“I ain’t here for no food. I need to see Jack.”

“Jack isn’t seeing visitors during the lunch rush.”

“Tell him there someone wants oyster cakes.”

“We do not have oyster cakes on the menu, sir.”

“I know, just tell him.”

The matradee turned with a click of his shoes and look of pure disgust. He headed towards the kitchen and presumably Jack. It was only a matter of seconds before he came out of the kitchen.

“Sir, please come with me,” stated the matradee as he escorted Horace to the bar. “Jack will be with you in a couple of minutes. May I get a drink while you wait?”

“Bourbon straight.”

“What do you need Horace?” Asked Jack as the bartender set down the glass of Bourbon.

“Looking for info on Patricia and Donald Westfall. She says they ate here the other night.”

“They always eat here before going to the evening opera. What does that have to do with you though?”

“He’s missin. She wants me to find him. Try to trace their steps”

“I can’t really tell you too much other than they were here. Oh and she requested to sit in Brad’s section again. But, that is not unusual though. Whenever she eats here she always sits in Brad’s section.

“She eats often?”

“Every Friday with the husband and then a couple of times during the week by herself.”

“Really. Is Brad here to talk?”

“No Brad is off. He has also been sick the last two days. If he does not come in tomorrow he will be out on the street.”

“Thanks Jack” stated Horace as he downed the last of his drink. “I say you need oyster cakes though.”

Horace got up from his stool and headed towards the door. Noticing that he was being watched carefully by a server nearby. It was obvious that he was interested in the conversation and might have more to add to the story.
